We explore the geological fascination of the French Upper Rhinerift.

• The Vogesen - which are the pendant of the Black Forest - are holding interesting, old, crystal and volcanic rocks from the basement.
• The hilly foothills connect to the broken Upper Rhinerift. They mainly consist of deposits of rocks and build the overburden.
• The lowered rift, filled with young rocks, holds among other things potash salt and petroleum. 

We will start at Colmar(F) with our excursion and also will be able to taste the French cooking besides the geology.
